The $1600 watch....

DH's watch I bought him in 2001 for V-day broke finally. It's a fossil watch, so it's wasn't expensive, although at the time spending $80 on watch seemed like a lot. Because of his requirements in a watch there is basically only one watch that he wants. He wants this expensive Tag Heuer Kirium watch see here.

I have no idea why a watch would be so expensive. Is it built better? Is it worth the money to buy an expensive watch? We're not getting it because well $1600 is a lot of money to spend on a watch. However I wonder at what point are you able to afford a watch like this?

Is it just a very nice accessory that you wear all the time so it's worth it? Or is it pure luxury? And you can't afford it until you make $200k? Also is it possible negotiate for a watch this expensive?

Because DH wants a combo watch, we're going this weekend to a fossil store to see if we can't just replace the band on his watch. And he can keep on using it. If we do this, then perhaps he'll be able to reach his goal of wearing no more than 25 cents worth of clothing a day.

Go get a Casio. Good value for the money. Plus warranty. If you want to feel rich, get a Timex. You can get at least 15 Timex watches for the price of one Tag Heuer. That's like a lifetime supply!! Plus if you don't like it, you can just get another 'cause it's only like $65. If you get an expensive watch, it's practically like getting married. You're stuck with the broad just because it looked nice in the case.

That's a very expensive watch. I didn't even know it existed. You have to ask yourself how someone could even desire such a thing? or even dream of it.
I've heard about Rolex, but I don't want one. My Mickey Mouse watch works just fine. Plus, it's funky!

Timex and Fossil both make "combo" analog/digital watches, if that is the requirement. And they're much cheaper than that Tag.

I clicked the link you provide to Amazon.com and couldn't believe the price....$1595!!!!!

Doesn't it just amaze you that there are people who are so vain that they would pay that much for only a watch? I think that the most I've ever paid for a watch has been $30.

Comparatively speaking, at $80 you are getting a steal. Congrats.

My husband got a Tag as a gift, but he doesn't like to wear a watch! I think it *is* a better watch than the usual brands when considering the quality of parts, finish, etc. but I also think the increase in quality is not going to be worth $1400 to many people. I mean, you can get a watch that tells time, has a chrono, alarm, etc. for $30. We wound up dontating the Tag Heuer watch to a charity auction and claiming the tax deduction.

But I do think that these fancy-schmancy watches etc are nice for wealthy folks who don't want to accumulate lots of stuff. If you're only going to have one watch and you can afford it, why not splurge on a luxury watch? But IMHO it's not worth the money if you really do have something more useful to spend it on.
